Redcliffe Hospital Expansion

The Redcliffe Hospital Expansion is a priority project under the Queensland Government’s Hospital Rescue Plan. Redcliffe Hospital will undergo a major expansion and refurbishment to upgrade the existing hospital.

The Redcliffe Hospital Expansion is essential for the people of Moreton Bay to ensure they can access care easier, move off surgery waiting lists faster, and have a healthcare system they can rely on.

It will deliver significant improvements to the hospital campus and will support our healthcare service to meet the growing needs of the local community, making sure the Moreton Bay community have access to safe and high-quality healthcare closer to home.

What we’re building

We are developing a new plan for the Redcliffe Hospital Expansion that meets Hospital and Health Service and clinical needs, ensures the safety of nurses, doctors and healthcare workers and improves service delivery through better design and use of the site.

The Hospital Rescue Plan will deliver:

  • At least 210 new overnight beds
  • Services including maternity, endoscopy, and operating theatres
  • A new, fully developed plan that meets Hospital and Health Service and clinical needs
  • A design that ensures the safety of nurses, doctors and healthcare workers
  • Better use of the site to maximise service delivery
  • More car parks.

Another key focus for the Redcliffe Hospital Expansion Project will be the expansion of the multi-storey car park to meet current and future parking demands.

The car park expansion will deliver an additional 530 car park including disability car parking bays and motorcycle parking bays.

Why we’re expanding

Redcliffe Hospital is located on the traditional lands of the Kabi Kabi people and is in the fast-growing Moreton Bay region, home to over half a million Queenslanders.

Redcliffe Hospital’s catchment encompasses the Redcliffe peninsula as well as the surrounding suburbs of Deception Bay, North Lakes, Murrumba Downs, Kallangur and Brighton.

The Redcliffe Hospital catchment services approximately 190,000 residents. By 2046, the population is expected to grow to 275,000 persons, reflective of a 1.8% annual growth rate (higher than the 1.4% annual growth rate of Queensland).

Expanding Redcliffe Hospital will deliver expanded clinical capacity and a modern healthcare facility to support contemporary models of care. It will make sure we meet the needs of our community, now and in the future.

The Hospital Rescue Plan

The Hospital Rescue Plan will deliver more than 2,600 new beds alongside more investment in a bigger health workforce. This plan gives certainty to industry, health professionals, communities and, most importantly, Queenslanders.
