Conditions
Please note this is not an exhaustive list of all conditions for outpatient services and does not exclude consideration for referral unless specifically stipulated in the out of scope section.
Paediatric services
Referrals for children and young people should follow the Children’s Health Queensland referral guidelines.
Emergency department referrals
All urgent cases must be discussed with the on call Registrar to obtain appropriate prioritisation and treatment. Contact through:

Urgent cases accepted via phone must be accompanied with a written referral and a copy faxed immediately to the Central Patient Intake Unit: 1300 364 952.
Out of scope services
Not all conditions are appropriate for referrals to the Wound Management service in the Queensland public health system. Exceptions can always be made where clinically indicated.
The following are not routinely provided in a public Wound Management service.
- Initial acute burns should be managed as per ANZBA guidelines
- For High Risk Foot service please see Vascular High Risk Foot CPC or Diabetic High Risk Foot CPC unless service is not readily available.
- Patients with spinal injuries should be referred to Spinal Outreach Team (SPOT)
Out of catchment
Metro North Health is responsible for providing public health services to the people who reside within its boundaries. Special consideration is made for patients requiring tertiary care or services that are not provided by their local Hospital and Health Service. If your patient lives outside the Metro North Health area and you wish to refer them to one of our services, inclusion of information regarding their particular medical and social factors will assist with the triaging of your referral.
