Dear colleagues,
Here we are the end of 2021 and this will be my last message to you all before the end of the year. While the year has been a huge challenge for each and every one of us, it has certainly demonstrated to me the commitment, the dedication and the professionalism of our staff and for me as the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer I could not be prouder of our Nurses and Midwives.
So as you reflect on your year, the trials and the tribulations, the good and the not so good times, please take stock of what you as an individual has achieved and what has been achieved as a collective within our own professions but beyond. To those who have had accolades this year in the form of awards and acknowledgments, well done and keep up the outstanding work, your colleagues are so proud of you. To those of you who may not have received formal acknowledgement please know that your amazing commitment to the patients in our care does not go unnoticed.
Nursing and Midwifery has recently announced our QUT/MN Research Interns for 2022. This is the second year that we have been able to offer this unique research development opportunity and in conjunction with QUT, where last year we saw five wonderful budding nursing and midwifery researchers. I am excited to see what our 2022 cohort produce.

Christmas in my house is a Boxing Day celebration as now that my children are grown and everyone has so many commitments on Christmas Day, it is just easier to have a huge celebration on that day. So I will be feeding 30 and enjoying the fact that we will have 3 new grandchildren to help share in the festivities. Last year we welcomed baby Charlotte into our lives and this year she has been joined by Isabelle and Leo. My husband Ian and I feel truly blessed as in addition to these three, we have three step-grandchildren, aged 11, 10 & 7 to share the joy. Needless to say the credit card is suffering from severe overuse and I fear that he may take to it with a pair of scissors if another package turns up on our doorstep. I love this time of year and I love nothing better than shopping, so for me it is a match made in heaven!
This year is the second year we have run the MN Nursing and Midwifery Dance Competition and we had many wonderful entries. Community and Oral Health Services and Diabetes Services RBWH lay down the gauntlet last year and were a tough act to follow but they had some stiff competition and this year the winners are:
- Overall Winner: Boondall Vaccination Clinic – Community & Oral Health Directorate
- Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer Award: Dance of the Socially Distance Cygnets – Community & Oral Health Directorate
I hope this festive season is wonderful and you get to spend time with family and friends. Please stay safe, you, our staff are the most valuable resource Metro North has and I look forward to working with you again in 2022, when Nursing and Midwifery will continue to provide wonderful care to our patients and achieve outstanding results in the realms of education and research.
