We are continuing to work on our recovery from COVID and winter demand. The numbers are coming down but there’s still a way to go until we get back to business as usual.

I have been really impressed by the draft facility Operational Plans for next financial year. When we are seeing high demand it’s easy to forget that our focus is always on providing the best possible care for patients. The Operational Plans help us keep our eye on care delivery for the people who need us, rather than just looking at targets and KPIs.

This week we’ve seen excellent examples of staff working together across the whole HHS to manage capacity and demand. Thank you for your work.

Our frontline clinicians are regularly (and rightly) recognised for their dedication and commitment, especially during the pandemic.

The past few months across Metro North we have seen a huge amount of activity. In my few weeks with the Hospital and Health Service, I have witnessed the whole organisation pull together to fill the gaps, keep things moving and care for each other and our patients.

Hello everyone! It’s great to be here in Metro North. In my previous roles as the COVID-19 Health System Response Lead and Health Service Chief Executive Central West Hospital and Health Service I was very aware of Metro North’s positive reputation and achievements and I am enjoying being part of the team.

Some of you may be aware that Professor Brett Emmerson has decided to retire after 25 years with Metro North and RBWH. As Executive Director Metro North Mental Health, Brett has been a passionate advocate for increasing access to mental health services.

Today is Debbie McNamara’s last day as Executive Director of the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS). Debbie has been with Metro North since 2017 when she came on board as Development Director of the Herston Quarter Redevelopment Project.

Today marks our current CEO’s last day with Metro North. I want to give a huge farewell to Shaun. I’ve worked alongside Shaun and the Metro North team for the past three and a half years and seen the organisation benefit greatly from his passion for healthcare and vision for ensuring we are prepared for future demand.

NAIDOC week is wrapping up this weekend. Due to the restrictions, we have held another virtual NAIDOC celebration this year with a series of videos hosted on the Better Together Van webpage to acknowledge the history and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
