Men’s health was the key focus of an event at Dayboro recently, which included a presentation from Caboolture and Kilcoy Hospitals Advance Care Planner Desre Arnold.

Advance care planning ensures loved ones and doctors know a patient’s health and personal preferences should they not be capable of speaking for themselves. It ensures the treatment that patients receive is in line with their values and wishes.

“The event was run by the Dayboro men’s shed team with a strong focus on men’s health,” Desre said.

Men’s health was the key focus of an event at Dayboro recently“I set up a booth and spoke to many men from across south-east Queensland, followed by a more detailed workshop in the afternoon for about 20 people.”

Event organiser Rod Edwards from Dayboro Men’s Shed said feedback on Desre’s presentation had has been wonderful.

“Individuals from the Dayboro and other sheds were talking about how valuable your information was,” Rod told Desre via email.

“I attended your workshop and will be taking action for my wife and I on this important issue.”

Desre also recently presented at the Queensland Justices Association Caboolture Branch senior safety event at Sports Central Caboolture, which also included representatives from Crimestoppers, cyber security and retirement living options.

She is happy to speak with inpatients and regularly visits people at their home to help them work through the complexities of advance care planning.
