A sea of community
When I first painted a large seahorse, I couldn?t see how it connected to my theme of community. It felt isolated, almost too quiet, and I wasn?t sure where it belonged. Later, I remembered that the male seahorse carries and releases its offspring. As I painted the tiny seahorses around it, something shifted in me ? a sudden warmth, a sense of recognition. They became little groups, small communities I could enter and explore. In that moment, I felt confident and happy, as if the painting had finally opened itself to me. What began as a single creature turned into a whole world of connection, and I felt myself stepping into it.
About Samantha Smith-Blackmore
My web of connections grows from the places where I feel seen and unblocked. I move at my own pace, without pressure or judgement, staying only where I feel safe, happy, and held. At the top of my tree, my branches interconnect like a nervous web — a living network of awareness. Sparkling words travel across them like tiny signals: trust, sense, belong, breathe. Every connection speaks to another, every spark becomes insight, and my canopy glows with the quiet intelligence of my inner world.
