New centre offers gold standard of maternity care for women
Caboolture Hospital’s new Women, Children and Family Services centre at Morayfield has the time, the space and the staff to offer gold standard of maternity care.
The new centre is home to two midwifery group practice (MGP) teams offering a continuity of care model of care, Midwives and Me and Damara.
Under an MGP model, people are cared for by the same group of midwives throughout their pregnancy, labour, birth and follow-ups at home after the birth.
This gives the opportunity for midwives and the parents to get to know each other and develop a strong partnership.
Research earlier this year by The Cochrane Library found that people who experienced midwife continuity of care models reported more positive experiences during pregnancy, labour and postpartum.
Caboolture Hospital Clinical Midwife Robyn Alexander and her colleagues in Midwives and Me are enjoying the dedicated MGP centre.
“I love having a space dedicated for the care of women as its primary role,” Robyn said.
“It gives us flexibility to see mums based on their individual needs, in a relaxed atmosphere that is easier to access that feels less clinical.”
The new centre is also home to the Starting Well Initiative, and Caboolture Hospital lactation consultants host classes at the centre two days per week.
It is located at 25 Leda Boulevard, Morayfield – between Morayfield Shopping Centre and The Hub Medical Centre. Free parking is available on-site.
Ngarrama midwives, for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, are based at Caboolture Satellite Hospital at 15 Rowe Street, Caboolture and Kallangur Satellite Hospital at 9 Stoker Way, Kallangur.
Core midwives are available 24 hours a day for inpatients in the maternity unit at Caboolture Hospital.
