Gina’s hearty minestrone soup warms the hearts of patients at STARS

Food Services staff member Gina treats patients to her hearty minestrone soup as part of a new ‘meet the staff and their favourite dish’ initiative at STARS.
The initiative is aimed at fostering a connection between food services staff and patients, while delivering a variety of nutritious food that reflect their diverse cultural backgrounds.
Gina has worked in food services for 33 years, the last five as a valued member of the STARS Food Services team. She is known for her warm smile and dedication, bringing care and flavour to every meal she serves.
“This dish holds a very special place in my heart. It was the first traditional Italian recipe my mother taught me as a young child. Preparing it always reminds me of family heritage, and the comfort of sharing food made with love,” Gina said.
“I choose the dish to make for the patients because it reflects my Italian heritage and the values of simplicity, nourishment and comfort.
“It is a wholesome, healthy meal that I believe can bring patients both nutrition and a sense of warmth, just as it has done for my family over generations.”
STARS Patient Lothar thoroughly enjoyed Gina’s soup. Born in Germany, Lothar is certainly familiar with how satisfying a warm bowl of soup can be.
“I enjoy cooking soup during the winter but haven’t had much opportunity to do so lately. I saw minestrone on the menu and thought I’d try it out. I emptied my bowl, and it was very nourishing, so a big tick for Gina for this delicious meal,” Lothar said.
Congratulations to the STARS Food Services team for improving patients’ hospital stays, one dish at a time.
