Applications are invited from appropriately qualified candidates for a Jamieson Trauma Institute (JTI) funded PhD scholarship in the Science & Engineering Faculty at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane, Australia.

The successful candidate will mainly be involved in the development and testing of artificial intelligence-based methods for detection and classification of bone fractures on clinical radiographic images. A possible extension of the project is the virtual reconstruction of 3D models of the bone fragments from routine orthogonal 2D radiographs. Clinical image data will be available from the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH). The recipient will have the opportunity of working closely with clinicians at the RBWH, informatics specialists at CSIRO’s E-Health Centre, and engineers at QUT.

Applicant Requirements

  • This scholarship is available to Australian and international applicants
  • International students will need to apply for a QUT Tuition Fee Waiver Scholarship and must meet the University’s English language requirements
  • Must not have completed a PhD or equivalent degree
  • Must hold a relevant degree (e.g. Informatics, Engineering, Physics or related branches) of at least a first-class honours or equivalent
  • Must demonstrate mathematical & programming skills
  • Demonstrable oral and written communication skills
  • Must commence full-time study.
