Meet Geraldine Horan, Nurse Unit Manager at Halwyn House
Halwyn Centre Nurse Unit Manager Geraldine Horan has a special place in the hearts of Halwyn Centre residents and their families.
Geraldine leads the nursing team at the centre, which is based in Red Hill. Here, the team caters for people with intellectual and physical disabilities who have complex high-care needs requiring higher levels of nursing hours than other residential services.
All residents are wheelchair dependent with various levels of physical, intellectual, communication, behavioural and developmental health-related issues and receive 24/7 care to assist with all aspects of daily living.
When asked about what is most important in her life, Nurse Unit Manager Geraldine said providing person-centred care to the residents at Halwyn Centre is high on her list.
“It is about being kind to people and showing humanity to everyone you encounter,” Geraldine said.
“For all of us at the Halwyn Centre, we want to ensure our residents have a good day, every day!
“Our residents here are very special, very resilient people.
“We are grateful for the support of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, which allows us to provide care that gives residents a greater opportunity to live their best life.
“Our staff go above and beyond to support our residents. We all want the very best for them.”
