New healthy ageing clinic delivers vital care

Staff at the new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healthy Ageing Clinic
A new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healthy Ageing Clinic is providing specialised geriatric care in a culturally safe and supportive environment for Elders in north Brisbane.
The clinic is funded by Queensland Dementia and Frailty Network and delivered in partnership by Moreton Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (MATSICHS) and Metro North Health. It supports people aged 50 and over, as well as their immediate family members.
Focusing on complex and chronic conditions associated with ageing, the clinic aims to enhance the quality of life for older patients through personalised culturally informed healthcare.
The clinic provides a range of essential geriatric services, including cognitive and functional assessments, restorative care, dementia diagnosis and management, falls risk assessment, and medication reviews.
Patients can be referred to the clinic by their general practitioner. It operates weekly, alternating between the MATSICHS Caboolture and MATSICHS Strathpine clinics.
This initiative represents a significant step towards ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders receive the specialised care they deserve, close to home.
