Patients accessing Metro North Kidney Services can now expect an enhanced experience following the service’s move to a larger more modern location in Chermside.
Kidney Health Nurse Unit Manager Feldinar Tapay said the relocation represented a new era for Metro North kidney services.
“Our new home in Chermside is larger, more modern and now serves as the Metro North Home, Independent Dialysis and Transition Service,” Feldinar said.
“Across a range of services, we support more than 300 patients from early-stage chronic kidney disease management to those undergoing transition and home dialysis therapies.
“This relocation marks not just a change of address, but a renewed commitment to patient care and community connection, with a core focus on promoting independence and reinforcing education among end-stage renal disease and chronic kidney disease patients.”
Feldinar also said patients and staff have welcomed the change of location.
“Our new centre is a much more comfortable environment in which to work and receive treatment, with more open spaces and lots of natural light,” Feldinar said.
In recognition of the cultural significance of the land on which the new centre sits, the centre has been named Yakka Duggatin Nu by a Turrbul Elder.
“The name means ‘working for the people’ which really captures the spirit of what we do to support our patients and the community, including providing culturally safe care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people,” Felindar said.
As well as supporting patients in the local Metro North Health catchment, the Kidney Service team’s reach also extends to Norfolk Island renal clinic and peritoneal dialysis patients.
