Moreton Bay residents requiring cancer care treatment are benefiting from a new shuttle bus from the Caboolture area to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH).

Executive Director of Cancer Care Services RBWH Dr Melissa Eastgate said the free Cancer Council Queensland Transport to Treatment shuttle bus is run by the RBWH Cancer Service and RBWH Foundation.

Patients require a referral from a healthcare provider and can then book a seat for their preferred day and time.

“Patients also have the option to bring one other person on the bus with them if there is space available,” Dr Eastgate said.

Catherine was one of the first patients to use the new service and is grateful that transport to RBWH is taken care of.

“There is a lot to get your head around when you are diagnosed with cancer. Thanks to the shuttle service, transport to and from my appointments is no longer one of them,” Catherine said.

“If not for this option, I would have had to rely on friends and family to get to and from my appointments.

“It’s such a blessing that my husband Bill can use the service too and be by my side to lend support.”

The Cancer Council Queensland Metro North shuttle bus is made possible thanks to support from the Hornery family and the RBWH Foundation.

“I’m so grateful to the Hornery family and everyone else involved in providing this service. Their generosity and kindness are making a big difference for me and my family at a difficult time,” Catherine said.

The Cancer Council Queensland Metro North shuttle operates a return service between Caboolture and RBWH on weekdays. People in the Caboolture area receiving cancer treatment at RBWH who wish to use the service should speak to their healthcare provider about a referral.
