Cuddles and Care

  • We encourage you to have a “skin to skin” (or kangaroo care) cuddle every day. Speak to your nurse about the best time to have a cuddle.
  • If your baby is bigger, you can still have a skin-to-skin cuddle, or you can also sit and cuddle your baby so you can see their face. If your baby has a tube feed while you are cuddling, please allow ½ hr after the feed before putting your baby back in their cot.
  • If you plan on coming in to do a bath, change a nappy or do a feed, please come 1/2hr before the feed is due (your nurse can tell you what time the feed is due). This will give you time to do these things before the feed. We are here to help you learn how to do these things with your baby.
  • Safe sleeping is a very important part of the care of your baby. Please ask your nurse to show you the best position for safe sleep.

How to Make Up Baby’s Cot | Red Nose Australia

  • Your nurse might ask you what time you intend to visit. This is so we can work with you to plan the day for your baby and coordinate feeds, baths, cuddles and cares.

Can I bring in our own clothing, bed linen and toys?

You are welcome to bring in personal items for your baby but please do not bring in items of sentimental value. We cannot guarantee that soiled clothing etc won’t get sent to the central laundry service.  The central laundry is unable to return personal items that are sent for washing.

Please label all clothing, linen, and toys.  Some families will use two large plastic containers and label them “clean” and “dirty” and manage their baby’s clothing using this system.  There is space either in your baby’s cot area or under the cot to store the boxes. When you are able, you take the dirty linen and wash it at your home.
