Your Healthcare Team

We work as part of a large healthcare team that not only includes doctors and nurses.  We can offer the support and expertise of the following people:

  • Social Worker –  If you would like to talk to the Social Worker, please let your nurse know and we will contact them for you. They provide a broad range of assistance related to strategies to cope with the experience of having a sick or premature baby, assistance with Centrelink, referrals to community organisations and supports and other opportunities to debrief about your journey in the neonatal unit.
  • Psychology – provides specific support relating to mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.
  • Indigenous Health Liaison Officer – provides culturally appropriate support, advocacy, and advice to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in the Hospital and on their return to community. You can self-refer or ask the team to refer for you. Ph: 3646 4154
  • Lactation Consultant – aids with all things related to feeding, particularly breastfeeding.
  • Physiotherapy – will work with you in relation to exercises and positioning to help with your baby’s development.
  • Speech pathologist – available to assist if your baby is having difficulty with feeding (outside of what we expect a beginning feeder to do).
  • Discharge Coordinator – will help with either transferring back to your closest hospital or to get your baby home if you live locally.
