Visiting the Grantley Stable Neonatal Unit
- We encourage you to be with your baby as often as possible. You are the most important person in their lives. There are no restrictions on when you can spend time with your baby. You are welcome 24 hours per day.
- We limit the number of visitors in total, to three people at your baby’s cot side at a time. One of these people needs to be a parent / primary caregiver.
- Siblings are welcome to visit but we ask parents to remember that the intensive care environment can be overwhelming for small children. Other children (16 and under), who are not siblings are not permitted to visit the nursery (this includes cousins, aunties, uncles etc).
- We acknowledge that every family is different, and we are happy to explore support possibilities with you on an individual basis.
- In the intensive care nursery, only parents / primary caregivers touch and cuddle their babies. In the special care nursery, we extend this opportunity to grandparents as well, with consent from parents / primary caregivers.
- We ask that you are sensitive to all the families that have babies in our nursery. It is important to be respectful of the privacy, social and cultural backgrounds of the babies that are in our care.
- Please be respectful of the team who are caring for your baby. Aggressive behaviour and / or language are detrimental to your baby’s wellbeing and that of the staff caring for them. The team at security will be contacted to assist staff should there be concerns about your behaviour and / or language.
Mobile phones
- We acknowledge that mobile phones are an important part of modern life, however we ask that you wipe your phone with a wipe each time you enter the unit. Please do not take or make phone calls or face time in the nursery. Additionally, please do not use your phone when feeding or cuddling your baby. This is a valuable time to bond, make eye contact and talk to your baby and we encourage you to take the opportunity for these quiet and special moments together.
Food and drinks in the nursery
- Water is permitted in the nursery rooms.
- Please do not take any other food or drinks into the nursery rooms, including coffee and tea.
Can I bring in our own clothing, bed linen and toys?
You are welcome to bring in personal items for your baby but please do not bring in items of sentimental value. We cannot guarantee that soiled clothing etc won’t get sent to the central laundry service. The central laundry is unable to return personal items that are sent for washing.
Please label all clothing, linen, and toys. Some families will use two large plastic containers and label them “clean” and “dirty” and manage their baby’s clothing using this system. There is space either in your baby’s cot area or under the cot to store the boxes. When you are able, you take the dirty linen and wash it at your home.
