A Fresh Look for Kidney Services

Metro North executives recently joined staff and patients for the official opening of Banfield Kidney Health.

Metro North executives recently joined staff and patients for the official opening of Banfield Kidney Health.

Banfield Kidney Health Nurse Unit Manager Feldinar ‘El’ Tapay and his team have ushered in a new era for Metro North kidney services with the opening of a brand-new location.

“Our new home in Chermside is larger, more modern and now serves as the Metro North Home, Independent Dialysis and Transition Service,” El said.

“Across a range of services, we support more than 300 patients from early-stage chronic kidney disease management to those undergoing transition and home dialysis therapies.

“This relocation marks not just a change of address, but a renewed commitment to patient care and community connection, with a core focus on promoting independence and reinforcing education among end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients.”

El also says that patients and staff have welcomed the change of location.

“Our new centre is a much more comfortable environment in which to work and receive treatment, with more open spaces and lots of natural light,” El said.

In recognition of the cultural significance of the land on which the new centre sits, Aunty Maroochy of the Turrbal people has gifted the centre the indigenous name Yakka Duggatin Nu.

“We are honoured to have been given this Indigenous name by Aunty Maroochy, which is proudly displayed above the main entrance to the centre,” El said.

“The name means ‘Working for the People’ which really captures the spirit of what we do to support our patients and the community, including providing culturally safe care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.”

As well as supporting patients in the local Metro North Health catchment, the teams reach will also extend to Norfolk Island renal clinic and peritoneal dialysis patients.
