Going home after birth
Leaving hospital (discharge)
You may ask to be discharged from hospital between 6-24 hours after birth, if you have a have a normal, uncomplicated vaginal birth. Midwives will give you discharge education including parent crafting and infant feeding support. We aim for discharge by 10.00am. Expected discharge after an uncomplicated caesarean is 72 hours.
Safe baby travel
Make sure to organise a baby capsule or car seat for a safe journey home. Find out more about child car seating and restraints.
GP visits
You are encouraged to take your baby to the GP for a check-up at 5-10 days after birth and again 6-8 weeks after birth for the baby/s immunisations.
Further education and support
We encourage parents whose babies are born at Redcliffe Hospital to contact the Community Child Health Service for ongoing health education and support. Clinics are run solely by child health nurses with no appointment needed. Call 1300 366 039 for further information.
