Organ and Tissue Donation
Redcliffe Hospital is part of the national DonateLife Network. Through local initiatives and supporting the national reform program, the DonateLife medical and nursing team aims to ensure all potential donors and their families are given the opportunity to donate.
The circumstances and opportunity for deceased patients and their families to support organ and tissue donation is uncommon. Just 1% of people dying in hospital are able to be an organ donor.
Each year, through the generosity of organ donors and their families, organ and tissue transplantation saves and transforms the lives of people with a life threatening illness or disability. One organ and tissue donor can transform the lives of 10 or more people.
Organs that can be transplanted include the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, intestine and pancreas. Tissues that can be transplanted include heart valves and other heart tissue, bone, tendons, ligaments and skin, and parts of the eye such as the cornea and sclera
