Olly’s a star for staff wellbeing

Olly Haug, a key part of Redcliffe Hospital’s REDDY Fun and Fitness team and Staff Wellness Group.

Occupational therapy is all about supporting patients to regain independence – and at Redcliffe Hospital, Occupational Therapy Allied Health Assistant Oliver Haug understands that well-being starts with those who provide the care.

Olly works in Redcliffe Hospital’s Stroke and Rehabilitation Unit, where his days are filled with providing care for the unit’s long-stay and stroke patients.

“We see some huge recoveries which is incredibly rewarding for everyone involved. I recently ran a music therapy group where a few patients brought in their instruments for a jam. Every day is different,” Olly said.

But it’s not just his patient care that earned Olly recognition as Redcliffe Hospital’s Star of the Month, it’s his passion for staff wellbeing and workplace culture.

Over the past year, Olly has played a key role in both the Staff Wellness Working Group and REDDY Fun and Fitness, helping organise and run everything from wellness workshops and Zen Den events to the weekly run club, wellness fairs, Race to the Roof and community fundraising events like the REDDY Fun Run/Walk, which raises funds for the Redcliffe Hospital Auxiliary.

“These groups are made up of passionate staff who volunteer their time, often outside work hours, to support their colleagues,” Olly said.

“I’m grateful to work alongside some inspiring people who do so much behind the scenes, while juggling busy full-time roles.”

Olly believes strongly in the connection between staff wellbeing and quality patient care.

“When staff are mentally, emotionally and physically well, they’re better equipped to deliver high-quality, compassionate care,” Olly said.

Having been at Redcliffe for nearly three years, Olly says it’s the people and the culture they’re building, that make the difference.

As for being named Star of the Month? “I’m just grateful the message is getting out there. It’s not about me – it’s about shining a light on the importance of staff wellbeing. I’m stoked to be part of something bigger.”
