Making research possible

Metro North Health’s high standard of research would not be possible without the support of the Metro North Research Coordinator Grants, Collaborative Research Grants, the RBWH Foundation and The Common Good.

Showcasing the future of research

The 2022 annual Metro North Research Excellence Awards attracted 71 phenomenal submissions that showcased the diverse and far-reaching research projects conducted by individual researchers and teams from across Metro North Health.

Research is vital in driving change in clinical practice to improve patient outcomes, and Metro North Health researchers are conducting ground-breaking research every day.

Brain organoids to revolutionise epilepsy treatment

Researchers at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) and the University of Queensland (UQ) are trialing a new technology to help epilepsy patients find the best treatment for their condition sooner.

COVID-19 learnings set to inform future policy

Research into the wellbeing of healthcare workers at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) during the COVID-19 pandemic aims to inform future policy and improvement initiatives when responding to crisis in the healthcare space.

ICU of the Future

Researchers at The Prince Charles Hospital (TPCH) have successfully undertaken a world-first project to redesign the Intensive Care Unit environment to be more patient-centric and recovery focussed.

Productive Ward – Releasing time to care

Nursing staff in The Prince Charles Hospital’s Rehabilitation and Acute Stroke unit are investigating how the implementation of an internationally recognised nursing quality improvement program is enhancing work processes and giving staff more time for patient care.

Forgotten fathers in pregnancy and obstetrics

Associate Professor Alka Kothari has been researching the role of fathers in obstetrics for nearly ten years. An obstetrician at Redcliffe Hospital, Dr Kothari is now concluding her PhD research on the role of fathers as consumers of obstetric and midwifery services.

Acknowledgements

The Metro North Health Research Office would like to acknowledge and thank the Metro North Health Communications team for their efforts in developing the annual Research Snapshot Report.

Without the curious minds and excellent writing skills of our communications experts, the stories of our researchers and their research excellence would not be told. Without the keen eye for detail and technical expertise of our online and design team members, the 2022 Research Snapshot would be possible, or look anywhere near as beautiful. Thank you.
