Caboolture Hospital saved an astonishing 92 kilograms of food waste in the first month of our new Food Waste Recycling Program.

This incredible feat equates to 33.58 tonnes per year and saves Caboolture Hospital approximately $5500 per annum on general waste collection.

Recognising that the hospital’s organic waste could be put to good use, food waste from the kitchen is now collected by Food Services staff and sent to a commercial composting company.

The program started in the main kitchen and work is underway to expand it to include coffee grounds collected by the Common Good café.

The response from staff involved in the program has been overwhelmingly positive. Both the Food Services and Waste Management teams have quickly developed a passion to help stop food waste and have adopted a sustainable mindset.
