When Caboolture Hospital put the call out for Green Team recruits, close to 50 staff jumped at the opportunity.

The Green Team’s mission is to reduce the hospital’s carbon footprint and improve environmental health across our hospital campus.

Their latest focus is on tackling single use cup waste. The team have introduced two projects – a recycling program and a Bring Your Own Cup (BYOC) initiative.

The Green Team has installed a collection point for take-away cups, which is located in the hospital’s courtyard near the automatic door closest to Pharmacy. Polystyrene cups are not recyclable or biodegradable and must be disposed of with other general waste.

The BYOC initiative aims to reduce the number of single-use (disposable) cups used by the hospital. Staff are encouraged to bring their own cup from home. Read Jonnel’s story (Bring Your Own Cup) to hear about his individual success.

The Green Team has a few more wins under their belt, including:

  • installation of a collection point for used printer cartridges which are then recycled. The collection point is located at the Operational Services supervisors’ offices in the Services Block.
  • implementation of a comingle recycling and PVC recycling program, which supports the hospital to recycle fluid bags, oxygen masks and tubing from wards.
