At Caboolture Hospital, we value our volunteers enormously and we are incredibly grateful to have Audrey Choo as part of the volunteering team.
Volunteers help to make visitors and patients feel welcome, supported and cared for – but Audrey and her team of chaplains are also here to lend an ear, a shoulder to cry on, and someone to confide in.
“We’re very lucky to have a chapel at the hospital – they’re busy places and even if you just want a quiet moment, it’s the perfect spot to escape to for a little bit and have some time to yourself,” she said.
“We see everybody and anybody, no matter what religion or background – we will help them on a journey to find or explore their faith or be someone they can talk to.
“Sometimes we talk to patients who just want to be forgiven for anything they think they’ve done wrong and let them know that they’re on the path to a better place, where they will be safe and cared for.
“When you leave the conversation with a patient and you see their smile and notice their posture relax, that’s how you know you’ve brought some peace of mind to that person, and that’s the most important thing we can do for patients.”
