Queensland’s Health Minister officially opening the refurbished ICU.

Queensland’s Health Minister joined our ICU clinicians to celebrate the refurbishment of our Intensive Care Unit.

The $3.2 million upgrade to the hospital’s ICU began in November last year, taking only six months to complete.

During the refurbishment, the ICU moved to a temporary facility on Level 6 East.

Nursing Unit Manager Gary Von Dohren said the team moved back into their newly refurbished facility in May, finding the space a much easier one to work in.

“Our ICU cares for around 500 patients each year. The new layout includes four new N-class negative pressure rooms, and two other isolation rooms as well,” Gary said

“Isolation and negative pressure rooms give us more flexibility in how patients are cared for – including COVID-positive patients.”

The ICU refurbishment is the latest in a long list of renovation and upgrade projects at Redcliffe Hospital over the past few years.
