Driving innovation through technology projects

Angela CostelloAngela Costello is an innovation enabler. As Digital Metro North’s Director for Digital Portfolio Services, Angela drives Metro North Health’s digital projects to support clinical and business areas, facilities, and capital works needs.

With a background in business, Angela also brings to the role a wealth of experience in government and the health technology sector to her role.

“I came to Metro North to work closer with clinical and patient care,” said Angela.

“My role focuses on change and innovation, making information and data available to ensure clinicians and business areas have the digital and information technology they need to support the way they work.

“We help clinicians to define their problems and opportunities, identify options and funding for their solution, and then drive delivery to meet their needs.

“At any point in time we may have 30 plus clinical and business initiatives on the go, and 15 digital projects for capital works being delivered across Metro North Health.”

One key project in Angela’s portfolio is the recently announced Clinical Imaging Repository, endorsed and funded by the Metro North Health Board.

The Clinical Imaging Repository will be a clinical game changer for the health service.

The first of its kind in Queensland, Metro North Health’s Clinical Imaging Repository will securely store images and provide clinicians with a single point of access to clinical imaging, including MRIs, CTs, X-Rays, ultrasounds, endoscopies, photos and video files, and scanned documents.

All clinical services will have access to the repository, regardless of location.

Delivering the Clinical Imaging Repository is the first stage of a five-year strategic goal – for Metro North Health patients to have a single clinical image record accessible to clinicians from within the integrated electronic Medical Record (ieMR), becoming a true integrated patient record.

Angela feels fortunate to lead and work alongside a team of capable clinical and technical professionals with a broad range of skills, focused on delivering real outcomes for the health service.

“I enjoy coming to work and learning with this likeminded group,” Angela said.

“Knowing that the digital capability we are introducing will support clinical care and make a difference to our patients and their families is what inspires me.”
