Happy retirement to enrolled Nurse Advanced Practice Roz Tait

There won’t be a dry eye in the house as the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) team farewells Enrolled Nurse Advanced Practice Roslyn (Roz) Tait as she heads off on her retirement.

Roz has dedicated the past 50 years of her life to caring for patients in the hospital after commencing a course as a Pupil Maternity Nurse in 1973.

Throughout her career at RBWH, she had the opportunity to work in various streams of nursing including antenatal, neonatal and birth suite, before finding her passion and settling into perioperative services in 1976 where she remains today.

Roz said many things have changed about the hospital during her time, including their uniforms!

“When the Royal Women’s Hospital was a separate facility, staff were formally dressed according to their role. For example, doctors, nurses and change nurses wore white stockings as part of the dress code,” she said.

“I’m in awe of the advancement of technology over the years, particularly laparoscopic surgery, which has huge benefits to patients including a shorter hospital stay and improved quality of life.

“During my time, I’ve been fortunate to work with some amazing clinicians and am currently working with consultants who I remember as medical students and residents.”

Roz said she has loved working at “The Royal” and being part of a multidisciplinary team delivery quality services and health care.

“I take with me many memorable moments from my time at RBWH. One that comes to mind is the baby I delivered in the carpark, some 15 years ago,” Roz said.

“I’m looking forward to my retirement, particularly spending time with my grandchildren and pursuing my love of photography and travel.

“I will miss working at the Royal, but my life has been enriched by the experience.”
