Max Up research study

The Max Up study aims to reduce the risk of lung cancer deaths by combining smoking cessation and lung cancer screening.

Studies have shown that lung cancer screening when combined with quitting smoking can reduce lung cancer mortality by 38%.

Choose a CT scanner near you and book in a free CT scan of your lungs.

During your free counselling calls Quitline will send you free nicotine patches, gum or lozenges in the post.

Complete an online survey every 3 months for the first year*.

(*Every person who completes their questionnaire at 12 months will receive a gift voucher.)

Eligible participants will receive free nicotine replacement therapy (nicotine patches, gum and lozenges) and counselling from Quitline, plus a free scan of the lungs (the scan does not require any needles or contrast).

Are you:

  • a resident of Queensland
  • aged 50-80 years old
  • currently smoking and want to quit
  • willing to have a chest CT scan*
  • generally well?

Eligible participants will receive free nicotine replacement therapy (nicotine patches, gum and lozenges) and counselling from Quitline, plus a free scan of the lungs (*the scan does not require any needles or contrast).

The University of Queensland Thoracic Research Centre is recruiting participants to other lung cancer screening studies. If you have already quit smoking, have a light or never smoking history, these may be of interest to you or your friends/family.
