Attending the TPCH ED unexpectedly is no picnic, but it's certainly made better with gifted hand-knitted teddy bears and our Child Life Therapist Meenu! 🧸
Six-year-old Masie is just one recent visitor to our Kids ED who found comfort through play with Meenu, following a seizure as a result of her epilepsy.
The beautiful hand-knitted bears given to little patients like Masie are made by volunteers, including 102-year-old Dale, the mother of paediatric ED Doctor Faye.
"We come to the hospital a bit, but this makes it more fun and takes the pressure off," said Masie's Mum, Chelyce. 🫶
"We can't always go home straight away as we wait for tests, so this is a good distraction for Masie."

My granddaughter received one of these bears a little while ago. Thank you.
Nutrition plays a vital role in managing dementia but can often be overlooked for other aspects of care. The Memory Diet Clinic at The Prince Charles Hospital provides targeted nutritional care for those living at home with dementia and dedicated support for carers and loved ones. ❤️🩹🥪
The service was collaboratively designed with geriatricians, dietitians, nurses, and individuals with lived experience of dementia spearheaded by project co-leads and dieticians Bri and Hannah.
“We identified significant barriers to people with dementia accessing appropriate nutritional care, largely due to a lack of services tailored to their specific needs,” Hannah said.
“Our clinic is led by dietitians with extensive experience in geriatric care. We recognise that the patient experience is really important, and that meaningful support for loved ones and carers is essential."
“We aim to reduce stress around nutrition and ultimately support patients while empowering those who care for them,” Bri added.
This service is currently available to those under the care of a TPCH geriatrician and have a dementia diagnosis.

Our social workers sit at the heart of our hospitals ensuring that our most vulnerable patients are supported. ❤️🩹🏡
Senior Social Workers Tania and Emily are critical in improving patient flow throughout TPCH by providing discharge planning advice to assist patients returning home.
Their work extends beyond the hospital by providing alternative discharge solutions including the use of the new St Martins Interim Care service where patients who are awaiting a permanent residential aged care spot can be cared for instead of staying in hospital.
"We help to overcome systemic barriers and concerns during the discharge process whilst ensuring every person is treated with dignity, respect and kindness," Tania said.
"You have to be so creative and really understand systems and discharge planning, but also advocacy is so important, otherwise people wouldn’t get out of hospital. That’s what social workers are really great at," Emily said.
#ShoutoutSaturday to all of our Metro North social workers including Tania and Emily. 👏

Congratulations 🎉 Emily!
I do not know if you were the beautiful people who helped me back in 2024 when I had a massive break in my humerous and other problems at the time to have to stay in TPCH for a week repairing. No help at home and the lovely staff in that area helped me to get a Program at home to ensure I could survive. My greatest thanks to the wonderful people who ensure that people like me get help at home which I needed for almost 4 months as was unable to do most daily tasks. No family to help and I survived due to these wonderful people. Congratulations to all involved in this program. 🥰
It is a great team.
Congrats to you both! Amazing Social workers💖🙏💖
