Brisbane puts its best bid forward to raise $375,000 for the RBWH Sony You Can centre

Big-hearted supporters have raised nearly $375,000 for the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Sony You Can centre at the inaugural ‘Brissy4Ward’ charity event.

The event saw Brisbane unite to hear to from inspirational youth cancer survivors, with special performances from Eurovision star Dami Im and Guy Sebastian.

The funds will contribute to the much-needed You Can Centre at RBWH which will be the only public specialised adolescent and young adult cancer centre in Queensland.

The dedicated centre will provide youth aged 15-25 with a social haven away from hospital wards, where they relax and hang out with friends and family.

It will feature the latest technology, kitchen/dining, areas for study, yoga and consult rooms, an outdoor courtyard and a space for young people to access peer support.

The generous donation comes after the Sony Foundation committed $1.8 million to the centre in June, with an additional $500,000 from the Queensland government.

The You Can Centre is set to open in May 2019.
