New medical interns set for exciting careers at Metro North Health

Shintaro and Lintaro are just two of Metro North’s new junior doctors ready to start work.

Over 180 new junior doctors have joined the Metro North Health team this month, as medical interns across the state commence their orientation.

Hailing from various spots from locally to across the globe, the interns share one common thread – immense enthusiasm to jump into their careers as doctors after a lengthy study process.

Twins Shintaro and Lintaro are bringing double the brain power and moral support to their new home at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where they will be placed together in general surgery.

The 23-year-olds were inspired to study medicine from both their grandfather and father, who were doctors in Taiwan.

While it’s still early days, the pair also show interest in specialising in radiology together.

“Going through this entire journey together definitely helps. We will be able to talk to each other and relate to each other with our experiences,” Lintaro said.

“This is a long time coming. We’ve always stayed on the path of medicine and it feels good to finally be here.”

After completing an intensive orientation program this week, the interns will embark on rotations in medicine, surgery, emergency medicine and additional elective terms in other specialised areas.

The internship program provides junior doctors with a broad view of the various areas where they could practice, before narrowing down their specialty.

This year Metro North Health welcomes interns across Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, The Prince Charles Hospital, Caboolture Hospital, Redcliffe Hospital – and for the first time ever – Community and Oral Health.
