- The Stress of Measuring Plantar Tissue Stress in People with Diabetes-Related Foot Ulcers: Biomechanical and Feasibility Findings from Two Prospective Cohort Studies 27 April 2024Reducing high mechanical stress is imperative to heal diabetes-related foot ulcers. We explored the association of cumulative plantar tissue stress (CPTS) and plantar foot ulcer healing, and the feasibility of measuring CPTS, in two prospective cohort studies (Australia (AU) and The Netherlands (NL)). Both studies used multiple sensors to measure factors to determine CPTS: plantar […]Chantal M Hulshof
- Melanoma - goes where it wants and does what it pleases. A case report of primary gastric melanoma 26 April 2024Melanoma is a common global cancer, however, extracutaneous forms are most often from metastasis. Primary extracutaneous forms are rare, with primary gastric melanoma exceedingly so, with approximately only 50 cases reported worldwide in the literature. The mainstay of management is surgical resection with minimal data on adjuvant therapy. Its prognosis remains poor due to its […]Matthew Corbitt
- Transtibial osseointegration following unilateral traumatic amputation: An observational study of patients with at least two years follow-up 26 April 2024CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: TTOI is likely to confer mobility and QOL improvements to patients dissatisfied with TSP rehabilitation following unilateral traumatic transtibial amputation. Adverse events are relatively infrequent and not further disabling. Judicious use of TTOI seems reasonable for properly selected patients.Munjed Al Muderis

- Implementing good life with osteoArthritis from Denmark (GLA:D®) in australian public hospitals. Part 1: Feasibility 26 April 2024CONCLUSIONS: Implementing GLA:D® in Australian public hospitals is feasible, safe, and acceptable to patients with knee osteoarthritis. Public hospital patients with knee osteoarthritis reported improvements in pain, disability, and quality of life similar to previous GLA:D® cohorts.Natalie J Collins
- Anomalous systemic arterial supply to the basal segment of the lung presenting with haemoptysis in the third trimester of pregnancy 25 April 2024Anomalous systemic arterial supply to the basal segment of the lung (ABLL) is a rare cause of haemoptysis. ABLL may be complicated by massive haemoptysis, heart failure due to left-to-right shunt and infection. We describe a case of this condition presenting in the third trimester of pregnancy. Computed tomography chest angiogram confirmed the diagnosis. A […]Kate Hawke
- A retrospective review of the short Synacthen test in Queensland hospitals 25 April 2024CONCLUSIONS: There was wide variability in requesting patterns and practices for SSTs across Queensland. More than one in six SSTs could have been avoided if a static morning cortisol had been performed prior. Clinician education and the adoption of a structured referral form may improve testing practices.Elizabeth Wootton
- Implementing good life with osteoArthritis from Denmark (GLA:D®) in Australian public hospitals. Part 2: Service providers' perceptions 25 April 2024CONCLUSIONS: Implementing GLA:D® in Australian public hospitals was supported by service providers. Specific operational and administrative factors, including staff training, patient complexity, and registry requirements should be considered when attempting to embed and sustain GLA:D® in large Australian public tertiary hospitals.Michelle A Cottrell
- Human papillomavirus associated oropharyngeal cancer now the most common mucosal head and neck cancer in Queensland 24 April 2024CONCLUSION: OPSCC is now the most common mucosal head and neck cancer diagnosed in Queensland, having surpassed oral cavity cancer. - Predictive performance of the common red flags in emergency department headache patients: a HEAD and HEAD-Colombia study 24 April 2024CONCLUSION: The sensitivity and specificity of the red flag criteria in this study were lower than previously reported. Regarding clinical practice, this suggests that red flag criteria may be useful to identify patients at higher risk of a serious secondary headache cause, but their low specificity could result in increased rates of CT scanning.Kevin Chu
- Changes in urinary glutathione sulfonamide (GSA) levels between admission and discharge of patients with cystic fibrosis 24 April 2024There is an urgent need to develop sensitive, non-invasive biomarkers that can track airway inflammatory activity for patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Urinary glutathione sulfonamide (GSA) levels correlate well with GSA levels in BAL samples and other markers of neutrophilic inflammation, suggesting that this biomarker may be suitable for tracking disease activity in this population. - Perioperative arterial catheterization: A prospective evaluation of ultrasound, infection, and patient-focused outcomes 24 April 2024CONCLUSIONS: Thrombosis was the most common abnormality and was usually asymptomatic. There were no infections, few post-operative symptoms, and minimal functional impairment following arterial catheterization.Victoria Eley
- A qualitative study of using nicotine products for smoking cessation after discharge from residential drug and alcohol treatment in Australia 23 April 2024INTRODUCTION: Tobacco smoking is highly prevalent among alcohol and other drugs (AOD) service clients and, despite interest in quitting, abstinence is rarely sustained. Nicotine products may assist after discharge from residential treatment services, but little is known about client receptivity to them. This study examined AOD withdrawal service clients' experiences of two types of nicotine […]Joshua Trigg
- World Workshop on Oral Medicine VIII-barriers to research in oral medicine: lessons learned from a bibliometric analysis of the oral potentially malignant disorders literature 23 April 2024CONCLUSIONS: Despite the paucity of OM practitioners, the findings underscored the substantial contribution of OM practitioners in developing OPMD nomenclature and classification, emphasizing the need for increased collaboration with cancer specialists to conduct comprehensive clinical trials for OPMD management. The study highlights the importance of standardized criteria in OPMDs research for better data comparison and […]Luiz Alcino Gueiros
