Research

Metro North Mental Health has a strong commitment to developing and supporting research and quality projects. In 2022 the inaugural Metro North Mental Health Research Symposium was held. A dedicated team has been established to assist research and quality projects across Metro North Mental Health.

Research, evaluation, and implementation are critical aspects of a well-functioning health system and are central to the delivery of safe, efficient, and effective care. Best practice approaches to caring for people experiencing severe, complex or crisis mental health and/or alcohol and drug issues requires constant attention to the evolving evidence-base for assessment, diagnosis, and treatment options.

Research and evaluation informs the development of clinical care pathways, service models and the effectiveness of specific treatments. The outcomes from this work provides essential information about what works, for whom and whether approaches are working in the ways in which they are intended.

Testimonials

See what some of our staff have to say about working in Metro North Mental Health.

Metro North encompasses a range of psychiatric core and sub-specialty terms which have made it possible for me to have a varied training experience, working alongside incredibly experienced and encouraging colleagues.

Having now commenced my advanced training in dual adult and forensic psychiatry; I would encourage anyone looking to apply for a dynamic training experience to consider the vast opportunities available here including numerous chances to get involved with clinical, research and academic roles! Equally important, I have met colleagues who have turned into friends and that speaks to the supportive atmosphere here!

Rubi, Advanced Trainee RBWH

Having completed all three stages of my RANZCP training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, I feel equipped to deal with a broad range of psychiatric presentations in my future practice as a psychiatrist. I have gained invaluable experience rotating through a range of inpatient and community settings and have felt privileged to work alongside highly skilled and experienced mentors; many of whom are leading experts in their respective fields.

Sarangan, Advance Trainee RBWH

My current role is characterised by a mix of acute presentations and outpatient clinic reviews. Being able to follow consumers’ recovery from the emergency department to the community is both rewarding and beneficial to my development as a practitioner.

The entirety of my mental health training has been with MNMH so far, specifically Redcliffe-Caboolture. This has been a very conscious decision informed by the wonderfully supportive work culture and the variety of rotations offered.

I find the Redcliffe-Caboolture service large enough to offer broad opportunities for clinical growth, but also small enough that no-one is a stranger, and support and advice are only a phone-call or office drop-in away.

Geoffrey, Stage 2 Trainee Redcliffe-Caboolture
