STARS five green star hospital performance rating
The Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS) located at the Herston Health Precinct has received a five green star performance rating by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) for its excellence in building operations.
The STARS building has set a new standard in healthcare facilities and was recognised for its design innovation and operations, including energy and water efficiency, thermal insulation, and decreased operational emissions.
Ms Kellie Williams, Metro North Health’s Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change Manager, said there is a growing body of evidence that greener hospitals are healthier hospitals and contribute to better patient outcomes.
“Greener healthcare infrastructure that support more environmentally sustainable practices is consistent to what we are aim to achieve across our facilities,” said Kellie.
“Hospital sustainability is key to reducing emissions associated with healthcare and achieving net zero target.”
The five green star performance rating measures a number of categories including, indoor environment, energy, transport, water, materials, land use and ecology, emissions and innovation.
STARS was delivered by Australian Unity as part of the $1.1 billion Herston Quarter redevelopment for Metro North Health.
