Celebrities, smiles and celebrations as biggest ever Giving Day smashes target.
On 12 June the RBWH Foundation held their annual Giving Day which was celebrated across the Herston Health Precinct. The 2024 Giving Day was the most successful, raising over $750, 000, well in excess of the original $600,000 target.
The day kicked off with Channel Seven’s Sunrise’s weather presenter Sam Mac broadcasting from the RBWH atrium. Sunrise also highlighted former RBWH patient Reece Crawford who once again participated in his treadmill challenge, raising over $13,000, and visited the Sony You Can Centre where some of Brisbane’s best street artists were working with adolescent and young adult cancer patients to create an inspirational mural.
Activities on the day included RBWH Foundation ambassador visits to patient wards, including former champion boxer Jeff Horn and cricketing greats Andy Bichel and Michael Kasprowicz who visited the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS) gyms. The ambassadors spent time chatting to patients, posing for photos, and providing words of encouragement to patients in their therapy sessions.
Brisbane Lions stars Dee Heslop, Taylor Smith and Darcy Fort signed autographs in the atrium before heading up to Ward 9AS to meet some delighted patients.
Tom Gilbert and the ever-popular mascot Phinny from the Dolphins NRL team could also be found in the atrium giving away footies and posing for selfies with fans.
Thank you to all the staff who baked goods for the bake sale, supported the Sunrise television crosses, or participated in the Beat the Clock competition, cycling and Pilates challenges.
A big shout out to the wonderful community of donors, fundraisers, volunteers, ambassadors, corporate partners and supporters for their kindness and generosity and for making 2024 RBWH Foundation Giving Day such as success.
RBWH Foundation CEO, Simone Garske passed on her thanks to everyone who supported the 2024 Giving Day.
“We so love Queensland’s largest hospital, and we love all of you for getting behind us this Giving Day,” said Simone.
