Caboolture Hospital extends independent inquiry into surgical services

The independent inquiry into surgical services at Caboolture Hospital will be extended until 25 October 2021.

The inquiry, which was commissioned last month, was initially due to finish on Monday 11 October.

Metro North Health Board Chair Jim McGowan said the inquiry, headed by eminent South Australian surgeon Dr James Sweeney, has already interviewed a number of patients and staff.

“Since 31 August, we have received 93 calls on the dedicated hotline for people wanting to discuss their care and treatment at Caboolture Hospital. These have all been triaged and progressed to the independent review team and clinicians outside Caboolture Hospital for immediate action.

“We take all staff and patient claims incredibly seriously, and any and all claims are being investigated.

“We are now adding a further layer of investigation from an independent body so our Caboolture Hospital community can have full confidence in the care they receive.”

At the request of Dr Sweeney, Mr McGowan has approved the extension to allow the review team sufficient time to complete interviews and thoroughly explore issues raised.

Patients or members of the community with queries can phone the Caboolture Hospital dedicated feedback line on (07) 3647 9559, 7 days a week, from 8am – 5pm daily.
