Caboolture Hospital ready for lift refurbishment program
Caboolture Hospital is refurbishing four lifts to ensure the hospital can continue to grow with the community.
Caboolture and Kilcoy Hospitals and Woodford Corrections Health Executive Director Dr Lance Le Ray said the lifts were reaching the end of their service life and were all due to be refurbished.
“Metro North Hospital and Health Service has committed to the lift refurbishment program to ensure safe and reliable access at the hospital for patients, visitors and staff,” Dr Le Ray said.
“We refurbished Lifts 3 and 4 in the second half of last year and I would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while this work was underway.
“The remaining two lifts, which go directly to our surgical and medical wards, will be closed from late January to mid-March while these important works are underway.
“We are working closely with the lift contractor to minimise disruption to hospital services and ensure the two refurbished lifts back on-line as soon as possible.
“The hospital is well prepared for the changes required, which includes extra beds in wards that are more easily accessible during this time.
“Extra volunteers and staff will be on hand to help direct people during this time and new colour-coded way-finding signage has been developed that will also help people find their destination.”
Dr Le Ray said the essential works would cause some disruption but patient safety and wellbeing continued to be the hospital’s number one priority.
“To ensure we are able to continue to provide the best and most appropriate care to all patients during these upgrades, some patients may be transferred to other facilities within the Metro North Hospital and Health Service area, including Kilcoy Hospital and Ashworth House in Zillmere,” Dr Le Ray said.
“Each patient being transferred has been carefully assessed by doctors to ensure they continue to receive the same level of care.
“Once the works are complete, the refurbished lifts will be efficient and reliable for a further 20 years.”
“There will be some inconvenience while these works are underway, but it is also an exciting time as we continue to build a better hospital for the Caboolture community.”
