Chinese delegation of doctors visits RBWH

Chinese delegates had the opportunity to tour RBWH and STARS.

On 24 October 2023, 23 delegates from private hospitals located throughout mainland China came to visit the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH).

The international delegation was arranged in partnership with The University of Queensland. Primarily made up of physicians, the visit forms part of an international outreach program to foster clinical connections and education opportunities.

The tour of RBWH included a presentation by Director of Patient Flow, Gareth Davis, followed by a tour of key wards. The groups were led by Gareth and Nursing Midwifery Director Patient Flow, Elaina Coyne.

“Despite coming from different contexts and cultures, we found we had a lot in common and many of the same challenges in regard to delivering health care,” Elaina said.

The tour group also visited the Emergency and Trauma Centre, where they were met by Director of Emergency Medicine Dr Sean Rothwell and his team, and the Wattlebrae Infectious Diseases Unit, where they were hosted by Dr Krispin Hajkowicz.

“It was a really positive experience, the group was very engaged and keen to come back — and we would love to have them back,” Elaina said.

The visiting delegates also toured the Surgical Treatment and Rehabilitation Services (STARS).
