Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital’s sixth Giving Day exceeded expectations, raising more than $225,000 to help improve patient comfort in the hospital’s Palliative Care Unit.

Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital began in 2021 as a partnership between the hospital and the RBWH Foundation, and has so far raised more than $1.3 million, thanks to the generosity and support of the Redcliffe Peninsula community and local businesses.

Redcliffe Hospital Executive Director Cang Dang said the partnership had so far supported more than 80 projects across the hospital.

“Those projects include practical improvements like improvements to the playroom in the Paediatric Ward, to funding research projects that advance medical care for patients everywhere,” Cang said.

“Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital has also funded staff wellbeing activities at the hospital – helping care for the doctors, nurses, and clinicians who deliver patient care each day.”

“The focus of Giving Day this year though was the Palliative Care Unit, where Raise it for Redcliffe support has already helped us to refurbish a courtyard and lounge area, and provide for a new family-friendly play space.”

Cang said that these improvements were only possible because of the generous support of community donors.

“That community support, combined with staff enthusiasm, has made Raise it for Redcliffe and Giving Day the success that it has been.”

“One of the most popular events on Giving Day is always the bake-sale arranged by our Allied Health teams. It always sells out quickly, and it just one great example of how staff are excited to get involved.”

“Another highlight was our Director of Research Dr Joel Dulhunty riding his penny farthing bicycle across the bridge to the hospital – it always delights patients, staff and visitors.”

Cang said the hospital was also grateful for the strong support from the local community radio station, Bridge FM, which broadcast live from the hospital on the day – and paid tribute to the late Ray Kerr, former station manager, for his commitment to Raise it for Redcliffe over many years.
