Serving up Easter treats

The Food Services team at Redcliffe Hospital are working with the Easter Bunny again this year to make sure patients have an Easter treat this Sunday.

Food Services Coordinator Carmel Harvey says the team provides more than 600 meals to patients every day.

“On Easter Sunday, those meals will include something special – and we’ve got 6.5 kilograms of chocolate easter eggs ready to go,” Carmel said.

“Special days like Easter Sunday are challenging for patients who may be away from family and loved ones. A little bit of extra effort and a small treat can bring a big sense of comfort to patients who can’t be at home.”

Many of Carmel’s team members will start work this Sunday before the sun comes up, preparing meals for patients. It’s not the first time the team has done something special for patients.

Food Services was recognised with a Team of the Month award earlier this year after going the extra mile to make Christmas special for patients and staff.

“Christmas is one of those special days too. We said thank you to hospital staff last Christmas with 1,000 pieces of cheesecake, special treats for staff on Christmas Day, and special treats for patients, from homemade White Christmas to rum balls,” Carmel said.

“The kitchen team loves to spread happiness and takes pride and satisfaction in making these special days feel special.

“All our team work hard to make patients comfortable, from the staff who deliver meals to patient beds, through to those whose roles were based in the kitchen and storerooms.

“We all enjoy knowing that we’ve done our bit to put a smile on a patient’s face.”
