Metro North conquers Darkness to Daylight Challenge
Trading a night’s sleep for a good cause, a team of 25 Metro North staff completed the annual Darkness to Daylight Challenge at Southbank Parklands.
The community run required each team to collectively run 110 kilometres overnight, bringing the issue of domestic and family violence out of the darkness and into the daylight. Each kilometre symbolises a life lost, remembering the 110 people (women, men and children) who die from domestic violence in Australia every year.
Wearing their special Metro North t-shirts with pride, our team went above and beyond, running an enormous combined 275kms, an extra 165kms in honour of those that continue or will experience domestic and family violence.
One in four women and one in 13 men have experienced violence by an intimate partner and eight women a day are hospitalised after being assaulted by their spouse. Money raised from the Darkness to Daylight challenge will go back into front-line services and partnerships helping those affected by Domestic and Family Violence.
