A love of hand crafting items creates a perfect denture
After many decades, the enjoyment of carefully planning, crafting, preparing and repairing dentures and relines for oral health patients hasn’t reduced for Kris Patterson.
Kris, a senior dental technician at the Caboolture Satellite Hospital, has spent her career devoted to patient care, making patients comfortable through the construction of dentures. Metro North has had the benefit of Kris’s expertise over the last few years.
“I love working with my hands and creating something which is going to be useful or will help people,” Kris said.
“I make dentures from the first impression, through to the intermediate stage where we set the wax, and onto the final stage of preparation before it is provided to the patient.
“Each denture and repair can be very complex and have its own unique challenges.”
A dental technician’s role often requires a very delicate and refined set of skills and knowledge to create the best possible outcome for the patient.
“I really enjoy doing the right job for the right patient at the right time,” Kris said.
“It is so important to plan your job well and to be able to the patients and having access to the dentists when we are creating or repairing a denture for the client.”
Kris is part of a fantastic team of dental technicians at the Caboolture Satellite Dental clinic who undertake around 120 repairs, relines and/or build new dentures each fortnight for eligible patients across Caboolture, Redcliffe, Kilcoy and Bribie Island.
“All the team have a wealth of experience and after 40 years I still learn from them, they are highly competent and brilliant in their own right,” she said.
“Through the variety of experience in our team we are able deliver new and innovative ways to deliver the best dentures possible.”
The Metro North Oral Health Service offers free oral health care for over 120,000 eligible adults each year at our general practice dental clinics across north Brisbane.
