New cardiac and respiratory clinic in Redcliffe Hospital MBICC

Patients accessing both cardiac and respiratory testing in the Clinical Measurements Unit will soon have a one-stop-shop in Redcliffe Hospital’s Moreton Bay Integrated Care Centre (MBICC).
Acting Director of Ambulatory and Outpatients at Redcliffe Hospital Caitlin McCarthy said the new ground floor MBICC clinic would make care easier to access for Redcliffe’s cardiac and respiratory patients.
“Before the new MBICC clinic location, our respiratory and cardiac patients would visit one building for their Cardiology or Respiratory appointment, but then need to find their way to the other end of the hospital campus to the Clinical Measurements Building for their testing,” Caitlin said.
“The new ground floor MBICC clinic will put an end to that, with respiratory and cardiac services soon to join the Clinical Measurements team in one easy to find location at the front of the hospital.”
Caitlin said the new outpatient clinic repurposed clinical space that was formerly a GP clinic tenancy in MBICC, a space that had been vacant for some time.

“This presented a great opportunity to relocate Clinical Measurements, but also to co-locate it with Cardiology and Respiratory clinicians to enhance our patient-centred approach,” she said.
“The move out of the old building went fantastically. Thanks to lots of good planning, Clinical Measurements was closed to patients for just one day (a Friday) to make the move. When it opened again on Monday, patient appointments were in the new clinic.”
Donne Quilty, the lead Cardiac Scientist at Redcliffe Hospital, and her team moved into the new MBICC clinic in May and patients are already welcoming the change.
“Feedback from our patients told us that our service was not in a great location,” Donne said.
“They found the old Clinical Measurements Building difficult to find and access because it was tucked away at the back of the hospital campus. Ease of access was one of the main things we wanted to improve, and the new MBICC clinic has done exactly that.”
While many cardiac and respiratory patients must travel to The Prince Charles Hospital (TPCH) for major procedures and interventions, the Redcliffe Hospital clinic ensures they can access essential routine care much closer to home.
“We provide Holter monitoring, blood pressure monitoring, stress testing, and ECGs in the new MBICC clinic. The new central location makes it significantly easier for patients to pick up and drop off the diagnostic equipment they need to take home,” Donne said.
The new space within MBICC is one of eight outpatient clinics at Redcliffe Hospital, which collectively manage around 900 patient appointments every day.
MBICC is located on the grounds of the hospital, near the main entrance.
