STARS Food Service team kicks off Chef’s Special series with Origin pizza night

The Food Service Team at the Surgical Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS) proudly launched the first instalment of their Chef’s Special series with an exciting State of Origin pizza night. The Chef’s Special series involves themed food nights to bring some extra joy and comfort to the patients at STARS.
For Director Dietetics and Food Services Amanda Adams, the State of Origin pizza night was a great success.
“The State of Origin is such a big deal for Queenslanders and getting together to share a pizza while watching the game is a popular thing to do,” Amanda said.
“We wanted to capture some of that Origin excitement in our own patient pizza night.
“Patients enjoyed a variety of pizzas and cheesy garlic bread, thoughtfully prepared by our talented kitchen staff.
“We hosted the event in the dining rooms, to encourage a sense of community and engagement for our patients who could then watch the Origin game together on the big screen.”
The patients were delighted with the quality and taste of the food, particularly praising the fresh, tasty pizzas and the indulgently cheesy garlic bread.
The patients are keen for more Chef Special nights with suggestions including international cuisine nights such as Italian, Chinese and Irish as well as more nights celebrating different occasions.
This successful event would not have been possible without the hard work, dedication and teamwork of the Food Service Team and dietetics assistants whose efforts ensured a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Up next in the Chef’s Special series is Ekka 2025, featuring the iconic strawberry ice cream and dagwood dogs. This was a huge hit with patients in 2024 and the team are thrilled to be bringing it back again this year. You can read about last year’s Ekka event here.
