Symposium a critical success
Now in its second year, the Perioperative Patient Blood Management Symposium has again been a critical success.
With 290 clinicians and scientists attending the event on Saturday 24 February 2018, the complex concept of Patient Blood Management has proven to be an incredible drawcard.
RBWH Director of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine Professor Kerstin Wyssusek said the symposium was vital for clinician education to further improve patient outcomes.
“We have just recently started to educate clinicians on Patient Blood Management and wisely using, or avoiding, blood products to the benefits of our patients,” she said.
“There is a big need amongst clinicians to be educated on alternatives to blood products.”
This year’s event focused on the importance of evidence, and provided advice on implementation strategies.
Graced by local, national and international expert presenters, attendees were treated to talks, workshops and masterclasses on state of the art knowledge and latest research.
Keynote speaker Professor Axel Hofmann said Brisbane and RBWH were already advanced in Patient Blood Management.
“Australia is leading the world,” he said.
“All you have to do here is build on what you’ve already started.”
RBWH Executive Director Dr Amanda Dines said the hospital embraced its leadership role in bringing education to the clinical community.
“We have an important leadership role in proving a venue that brings together the best of people from around the world, with our own high performing clinical teams,” she said.
“It’s a great opportunity to hear from the best, and from people all over the world to see and learn from us.”
