Queensland Renal Genetics Clinic

The Queensland Renal Genetics Clinic is a collaborative clinical service of the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Queensland Children’s Hospital. The clinic is a statewide service accepting referrals from across Queensland. The adult clinic is based at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and the paediatric clinic is based at the Queensland Children’s Hospital, however regional telehealth clinics are also performed. The clinics are conducted using a multidisciplinary approach with both nephrology and genetics staff in attendance.

Individuals who might be referred to the Queensland Renal Genetics Clinics include children/adults with a confirmed or suspected diagnosis/family history of:

  • Alport syndrome (AS)
  • Thin basement membrane nephropathy (TBMN)
  • Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS)
  • Renal cysts
  • Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD)
  • Autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD)
  • Nephronophthisis
  • Renal cysts and diabetes syndrome (RCAD)
  • Medullary cystic kidney disease (MCKD)
  • Tubulointerstitial kidney disease (TKD)
  • Atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome (aHUS)
  • Tubulopathies
  • Unknown chronic renal failure
