Pride in Metro North launch

The RBWH atrium was recently decorated in all colours of the rainbow for the launch of Pride in Metro North.

The launch was attended by Board Chair Jim McGowan, Chief Executive Jackie Hanson, Chief Operating Officer Jane Hancock, Director Clinical Governance Grant Carey-Ide, Executive Director RBWH Louise Oriti, Executive Director CKW Karlene Willcocks, Pride in Metro North Chair Michael Wilson, Pride in Metro North members and Metro North staff.

Pride in Metro North Executive Sponsor Grant Carey-Ide welcomes the Pride in Metro North initiative and the support it will provide to the Metro North LGBTQIA+ community.

“Pride in Metro North provides a safe-space and forum for collaboration and to share experiences for LGBTQIA+ people, to ensure Metro North is an inclusive space for our staff, our patients and their families and carers,” Grant said.

“It will also provide advice on matters affecting LGBTQIA+ people, including advocating for improvements in our services and facilities.

“Already we’ve seen a number of positive changes such as inclusive bathroom signage at the RBWH and Caboolture and the use of gender-neutral language in some patient information.”

Pride in Metro North Chair, Michael Wilson believes the initiative is a further example of how Metro North is embracing diversity, equity and inclusion.

“Pride in Metro North is part of Metro North’s commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all employees and consumers regardless of their sex, gender, variations of sex characteristics or sexual orientation,” Michael said.

“Pride in Metro North recognises that our LGBTQIA+ staff may face unique challenges and barriers, both in their personal and professional lives.

“I urge everyone at Metro North to join us – whether it’s by becoming an active member of the working group, participating in events, or by being an ally and standing in solidarity with your LGBTQIA+ colleagues, clients and consumers.

“When every member of our staff feels empowered to bring their whole selves to work, we create an environment that fosters creativity, innovation, and ultimately better patient outcomes.”
