Research Symposium success for Redcliffe Hospital
Redcliffe Hospital’s latest Research Symposium has again showcased the depth and diversity of research and quality improvement activities underway at one of Queensland’s busiest hospitals.
Director of Research at Redcliffe Hospital, Dr Joel Dulhunty, said this was the seventh time the hospital had hosted its research symposium.
“Our first event was held in 2017, and since then, the Research Symposium has grown and become an annual fixture in the hospital’s calendar,” Dr Dulhunty said.
“This year continued the tried-and-true formula of short and sharp presentations from clinician-researchers from all professions and disciplines.”
Dr Dulhunty said that the Symposium this year featured 17 presentations, with another 16 posters exhibited, detailing research and quality improvement projects completed or underway at the hospital.
“Our presenters are the superstars of the Symposium. They included nurses, podiatrists, physiotherapists, dietitians, speech pathologists, pharmacists and medical officers.”
“A highlight of the Symposium was the keynote address, presented by one of the hospital’s consumer representatives, Jane Geltch. Jane’s presentation focussed on the importance of true partnerships and co-design between clinician-researchers and consumers and referred to the significant work undertaken at Redcliffe Hospital to build effective community partnerships in research.”
Dr Dulhunty said he looked forward to the 2024 Research Symposium and was grateful to the many people involved who helped make the Symposium a success, including co-host Associate Professor Amanda Fox, the presenters, judges, and Symposium support team.
“A special thank you goes to our in-person and online audience for their participation and to our research, academic and community partners, including the Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital Research Giving Circle,” he said.
“We look for ways to incorporate new and innovative elements each year. Next year, our focus will be to continue to expand our audience within Metro North and our broader community as we celebrate the amazing work of our staff and research role models in improving patient care.
