One of RBWH’s newest recruits, Connor Jones, is one of seven new Anaesthetic Healthcare Practitioners who have recently started work at the hospital. Connor is also the proud recipient of the TAFE QLD Valter Colledan Student of the Year Award for Diploma Anaesthetic Technology Students. Due to the expansion of the role scope, RBWH has accepted more Anaesthetic Healthcare Practitioners graduates in 2021 than ever before.
Hi Team Royal, It is already May. Time really does fly when we’re having fun and May promises to be as fun filled as ever. We continue to roll out COVID-19 vaccination for staff, patients and family members in our RBWH Main Lobby clinic and we hope to see the addition of the Phizer vaccine, for people under 50, this month. The staff flu vaccination service has commenced on Level 2 and we will be very keen to ensure that all staff have access to this before we start the second dose AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine program for staff in June.
Nurse Navigators are vital members of the RBWH team, helping patients with complex health conditions coordinate their healthcare and providing extra support where they need it. RBWH patient Anja Christoffersen is just one of the many patients who can attest to the incredible work of our Nurse Navigators. The 22-year-old international model, author and businesswoman has been facing a constant medical battle since the day she was born, but thanks to her Nurse Navigator she has been able to gain time back in her life to pursue her dreams.
RBWH Senior House Officer Joshua Sia and his brother Aaron share more than just a last name. Living under the same roof, they’ve spent many anxious evenings together after Josh has finished a shift in the RBWH Fever Clinic or infectious diseases ward while the COVID-19 vaccine has been in development. Now, thanks to RBWH’s successful roll-out, Josh has been fully vaccinated, and Aaron has also received his first jab of Pfizer in the last week. In Phase 1b, frontline staff can offer vaccination to their close contacts to increase protection at home.
Funds Raised will be Doubled to Double the Difference. The countdown is on to the RBWH Foundation’s Royal Giving Day 2021 on Wednesday June 23. Funds from the 24-hour event will directly support RBWH medical and clinician-led research, patient care initiatives, and health worker training and education. Royal Giving Day is an opportunity for Queenslanders to show their support and gratitude to RBWH and on the day, every donation will be doubled by our matched donors, helping make double the difference.
On the 22nd April 2021, people all over the world rallied for climate change action for Earth Day. The Anaesthetics team at RBWH got on board to encourage all staff to participate in environmentally sustainability activities in healthcare and to take part in ‘Operation Clean Up’, an initiative that aims to reduce the waste produced in operation theatres. As part of ‘Operation Clean Up’, our anaesthetists audited their use of Blueys, a disposable bed protector commonly used in surgery.
