For Caboolture Hospital nurse Eric, a passion for learning and supporting others has defined his nursing journey. Trained in the USA, Eric practised there for ten years before coming to Australia. 🌏

"I love nursing. I'm passionate about a positive work environment and providing our patients with the best experience possible, even if it means dropping a cheeky Dad joke," says Eric.

Not only is he the FOCH (Face of Caboolture Hospital) featured on the hospital's website, Eric has appeared on A Current Affair taking the blood pressure of a reporter.🎬

This year, Eric has continued to expand his skills, completing the first year of a postgraduate diploma in Leadership and Management and studying Japanese at UQ’s Institute of Modern Languages.

"My greatest satisfaction in nursing is when I hear a staff member say, " Go ask Eric, he will know."

Do you know when to go to a Minor Injury and Illness Clinic vs the Emergency Department?

The Minor Injury and Illness Clinics provide walk-in urgent care for illnesses and injuries that aren’t life threatening. Here we unpack where you’d go for some common conditions. 🤧 🤢 😓

Metro North have three clinics:
📍Caboolture Satellite Hospital (Kabul)
📍Kallangur Satellite Hospital (Kalangoor)
📍Bribie Island Satellite Hospital (Yarun)

Plus, all the clinics have FREE parking!

Always call 000 in an Emergency or call 13 HEALTH to speak to a registered nurse.

A broken bone should absolutely involve an ER visit, surgery, a cast or possible internal bleeding and injuries could be involved.

Broken bones means emergency room where I am.

Every time I've seen a broken bone go to a walk in, they are sent away to the ER

Broken bones are not a minor injury

Broken bones go the ER here.

For me it depends on the time of day. We don’t have X-rays or doctors (doctors are very limited) available outside of the ER on the weekends. So if I think I’ve broken a bone, or done damage to my eye I’m going to the ER because waiting 1-3 days to get into a doctor and get an X-ray would cause more damage

The unconscious acting is 🔥🤣

The problem is, most urgent care places (at least where I live) will send people straight to the ER for “minor” things like stitches and injuries. They don’t deal with it in their offices. However, at the ER, you can be waiting 6+ hours to get stitches.

Depends where you are. “Minor Injury and Illness Clinics” aren’t always a thing. Emergency Rooms are sometimes the only resort.

Don't agree with broken bones. Depends on age, severity of mechanism of injury, closed or open fracture, wither it's combined with severe bleeding You can't generalise broken bones to minor injury or illness clinic I'd say emergency, they can always de-escalate

Yeah i’ve always been told ER for broken bones even when i lived in a major city because a lot of urgent cares dont have X-Ray machines so you’ll just waste time/money getting sent to the ED or to a specialist if its early enough in the day and they have an open appointment (thats what happened to me the one time i had a potential broken bone). Maybe your guys’ urgent care does but that doesn’t mean every one does as well so maybe just dont include it.

? Broken bones go to ER... need xrays and potential surgery.... Maybe broken toebones is different... Anyway i have anxiety and my panic attacks can cover real medical emergencies, our minor out of care clinic is far further away from us than the ER and ER staff themselves told me if i am in doubt i go to ER. ...coz one time i said i'm fine to my folks but was having such a severe allergic reaction to meds that the ER triage took my stats and rushed me to the back immediately. I thought it was just another panic attack -.-"

Don't know where this is, but in the UK they will make you wait hours at minor illness to be seen to tell you that this is clearly an Emergency so go there and wait 4-6 hours to be seen to be told it wasn't an emergency and deal with you last. 15hours for that twisted ankle that just needs ice and rest as its not broken.

Wish we had options. Where I live if anything happens after 5pm Monday-Friday it’s emergency. One could wait for a walk in clinic within those hours but one has to be there a hour before they open and stand in line to hopefully have a 5min check with a Dr. Health care has gone down hill in my area. Sadly.

Absolutely not. Broken bones go to the ER. Just a couple of days ago, one of my colleagues thought she dislocated her knee getting knocked down by a dog. Went to the ER, she has a compound break, full-length cast and needs surgery. If she'd gone to the urgent care, she'd have ended up with an unnecessary ambulance bill.

This is why urgent care clinics need more extended hours. Sometimes things you're supposed to go to urgent care for need to be taken care of in the middle of the night. If those people can't go to urgent care, they're going to the ER, and that creates more crowding and longer wait times

Broken bone? Really? I broke my femur and needed emergency surgery because my leg was shattered. Highly doubt the minor injury and illness clinic would have worked, especially since i needed surgery, care for 10 days and 2 blood transfusions. Just sayin

Superstars the both of you I think i hear Hollywood calling 🤩

i mean, i had to go to the emergency room because no urgent care places were open

I disagree with the first one... Most places outside of hospital won't set and/or cast a bone here. The best they will do is an x-ray to confirm a break, apply a temporary cast or sling to offer support, give some pain relief and then send you straight to emergency anyway. I mean, it would cut your wait time in hospital I suppose if urgent care confirmed a break first I guess...

Our minor injury clinic requires an appointment and we don't have a illness clinic. The advice nurse has told me to go to the ER for majority of these things (except flu/cold) those I got an appointment for which ended up being an emergency situation due to severe dehydration soooooo

The cases that went to the minor injury & illness clinic are also the ones that should not be called in to 911. 911 is an emergency number not a catch all for injuries/illnesses. Drive yourself or have someone else drive you. Ambulances are not a taxi service they are for serious situations.

yeah...as someone with hypermobility syndrome who hurts herself a lot, strains and sprains + broken bones sometimes require you to go to the emergency department. minor injury & illness clinics aren't always able to deal with those things depending on severity. it's a patient by patient basis.

i went to an urgent care when i broke my hand, just for them to do an XRAY, but didn’t see anything. they wrapped it up and sent me home. swelling got worse, pain got worse, hand was black and blue so i went to the hospital the next day, they done an xray and it was broken. broken bones definitely need to go to the ER

Find me an urgent care that actually has an X-ray set up... When my daughter broke her wrist and we went to urgent care first...they asked if we could come back in two days when they would have their X-ray tech in..
